This is what the young woman painting my toenails at the hotel in Negril said. I had chosen sky blue nail polish.
Blue for peace: in Gaza, in Sudan, in Congo, in Syria, in Ukraine.
And in Jamaica. Yes, like many other countries sadly, we have “warring gangs.”
I had a passion for blue as a teenager. There was no other colour I wanted to wear: electric blue, periwinkle blue, cornflower blue, royal blue, deep dark blue especially. I remember I even had a pair of blue shoes (not suede). I liked blue eye shadow - and lots of mascara.
Now, I am going back to blue I think. It’s comforting. And what could be more blue than the Caribbean? There are places where the blues meld together, sea and sky.
You can get lost in blue, the blue of peace.
