Today was what they call a “red letter day.” (What is the origin of that expression? I can’t recall). Our solar system was connected, finally. There have been teething pains but I think they will iron themselves out. We are celebrating, anyway.
While we were getting connected, ironically, it was pouring with rain. In fact, it has been pouring for the past two or three days almost non-stop. The rain comes literally in waves (tropical rain is always emphatic). A developing storm, which should soon be named Helene, is just to the west of us, and is now hopefully moving away northwards to bring anxious moments to the Cayman Islands and beyond. She is currently named Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine.
So, we postponed our much-anticipated Sunday trip to look at shorebirds on the mudflats to the south of us. We will have to regroup when things dry out a bit. We were joking that we have our own mudflats in our backyards… Birding in the rain just doesn’t work. Understandably, the birds are sensible, and hide - as humans should.
So right now, it’s still raining in torrents, roaring off the edge of the roof most determinedly. But we are connected to the sun, which we have not actually caught a glimpse of all day.
Never mind. I have a good book to read on my brand new Kindle! It’s called “The Night Watchman” and the author is the award-winning Native American writer, Louise Erdrich. This book is based on her grandfather’s life. I have never read her novels before, although she has written many (and poems); the style is quite lyrical. I will have to explore more of her work.
“Joy and Pain… Like sunshine and rain.”
It's pouring down rain, where I am, since this morning on and off, ugh!!! 😫
