Tropical storms and Hurricanes are not uncommon in the USA, but they usually dissipate before reaching the NYC area.
Sandy was an exception. My immediate neighborhood didn't get much damage, but the storm triggered a fire that destroyed more than 100 homes in the Breezy Point section of Queens. Elsewhere, power outages left people living in high-rise skyscrapers stranded without elevator service for days.

Oh yes - I had forgotten. Sandy was a strange one, going all the way up to NY. We didn’t suffer as much as the U.S. on this occasion and passed rather quickly.
Resonates. Up in my hill, we have been having rain and wind gusts. When I woke this morning the power had already gone. Not just me, the hill. Hoarding what’s left of my solar but it too will go by tomorrow. Am hoping for sun when Melissa has departed our island.
I am watching Brian now. I sure hope he’s wrong. But we all know, he is very good at what he does. Let us know when you come out the other side if you are able to. Thinking of you! Stay safe!
Dear Jackie, Thanks for your good wishes. Yes, Brian is generally quite accurate and that’s what worries me. He is not dramatizing! We will try to stay safe. I think it will al start going downhill on Sunday, at least for our part of the island…
13 years already, oh my goodness. It was an extremely terrible time for my family and me. My uncle and my father passed away during this time 10 days a part. We had a power outage that surprisingly wasn’t a record for us, but the winds were pounding at around 80 mph, which is a record.
My thoughts are with all that may be affected. Praying for everyone’s safety in Jamaica and all other areas Melissa may pass through. 🙏

I hope things are improving now! We are among the privileged down here, all is well but I am so shocked by the conditions in western Jamaica.
I can’t leave the hill - blocked from above and below. We have had some bad landslides and trees falling.
Oh no! Which hill? Is NWA doing any work? I hear JDF are having to clear roads ON FOOT.

Yes people seem to have quite bad memories of Sandy. I think she was one of those storms that got a lot meaner after she/he left our area.
Let’s hope she steers south - beautifully atmospheric photo though! Nature knows how to remind us who’s really in charge!!
Oh yes, Nature does. When I am out in the early morning you can pick up her mood! This morning I would say - it’s very uncertain!
