Oh thank you! I was sitting on the pier with the fishermen. There was fierce competition for the fish inside bits they were cleaning out - all slimy and yummy!
Thank you dear Audrey. I feel that I could sit and gaze at them forever. The Frigate Birds are superb, so austere. I remember seeing flocks of them in Rio, between the beach and the sea, endlessly circling. But of course, they don’t dive.
These are some of my favorite birds that pass us off the Oregon Coast. We were up the Yaquina River east of Newport, OR the other day and they were chilling on the oyster farm next to the seals and seal pups.
People need to understand how it feels to have ten of them fly over in formation. Wow.
That's great. I don't know it, must look it up! Brown Pelicans are common here but because they are common doesn't mean they are any less special, to me! I am glad your children are learning about birds!
Beautiful tribute to the Brown Pelican. Love the photo at the end.

Now that is a Field Note! What a great observation!
Thanks! I remember watching one negotiating a slippery fish entrail and trying to get it into his beak!
I had a chance to observe them AND several Magnificent Frigate Birds while sitting on the beautiful beach at Little Copa, just up
from the former Cable Hut Beach. Your description of both appearance and behavior are - PERFECT. Thank you again for keeping us aware.

Oh yes! They are wonderful when flying in a group. They are spectacular birds. Oh, and the Oregon coast is so beautiful…
I love Brown Pelicans! I have happy memories of watching them fly along the coast of Ecuador. They are wonderful to watch in flight, aren't they!
Fascinating. Such aerodynamic control!
I love him! My kids and I play a game called WINGSPAN which features hundreds of birds cards with glorious illustrations and facts :)

Thanks for letting us know about the brown pelican. I hope their nesting grounds stay safe.
Yes, so do I.
